Books and publications featuring the beautiful Isle of Tiree
Tiree - a vivid frontier of land, sea and sky is an A4 landscape format hardback book with a dustcover. It is printed full-colour throughout and is 214 pages in length.
Tiree is an island of exceptional beauty. The outermost island of the Inner Hebrides, its landscape is so unlike those of its neighbours that, on visiting it for the first time, travellers may feel that they have discovered a new land.
When approaching the island, the eye is at once taken by the beautiful gradations of vivid colour across the land and the sea. Ultramarine waters become turquoise and green as they shallow and foam onto the white beaches. Rich herbage covers the land at almost every point. The beaches play an important part, for they are made up of fine grains of disintegrated shells, which, when blown, fertilise and sustain the vegetation. From a picturesque point of view, this pearly sand has more attractions than one; for when the tide ebbs, the beaches are left with a glassy, smooth surface which reflects and mirrors the colours and tints of the sky.
This is indeed a photogenic landscape.
This book brings together, for the first time, a visually rich and vibrant collection of photographs by Becky Howard-Pope, Adrian Pope and Malcolm Steel. All three have strong connections to the island and their photographs capture the raw beauty and poetry of the island landscape.
